A few thoughts this fine Sunday...

1. If God intended me to lose 20 lbs, why are there fresh blackberry milkshakes at Burgerville?

2. I am so excited for my little princess to start kindergarten. I am feeling giddy. I love back to school time of year.

3. Family reunion this weekend! I love it. Can't wait to see all my family and my beloved 91 year old Grammy!

4. I am so embarassed by my eager anticipation of Tues, Sept. 5. Besides being the first day of school, I can't wait to watch the train wreck of Rosie O'Donnell premiering on The View. And, also is Katie Couric's first day of anchoring the CBS Evening News. (Wow, I can't even say that in my head without wanting to add, "with Dan Rather" at the end.) Weird. Anyway, can't wait. Wanna watch the entire morning of new fall tv. And, all the evening stuff as well. I am an addict and I might need professional help. TV Anonymous.

5. I have new, strange addiction to MySpace. It is so embarassing, I am having a hard time looking myself in the mirror. But, it is fun and my girls at work, my man, and quite a few of our friends all have pages and it is a fun way to keep up with each other and interact. So, another thing to occupy my downtime at work. If u wanna check it out, here ya go. :) http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendid=66987050

Fun with foil...

So, this is what my "spirited toddler" gets in to when my back is turned. He was real proud of himself and thought it was really the best "toy" ever. I was having 2 minutes at the computer in the living room while the baby was asleep and Skylar was otherwise occupied in her room and I heard a bit of rustling near the kitchen. I looked over my shoulder and saw foil a flyin. Now, I cudda gotten up, scolded the boy for getting in a drawer he knows he's not supposed to get into and dealt with the crying that I am sure wud ensue. OR, I could glance back over to the computer and let the kid have a little fun. So, I chose the latter. And, I was smiling to myself as I checked my email, looked at prices for flights to Vegas, maybe glancing at comments on my blog. All the while hearing the joyful crinkle of tin foil being thrown about and stepped on. I knew that if my other half was home, there is no way this activity would have been allowed. But, I must say, I tend to be the more casual in our parenting when it comes to getting dirty, messy, or into things one shudn't.
I just couldn't help but think what fun was going on in the head of our little man. I knew he was having more fun with a $1.75 roll of tin foil than he has had with just about any of his many expensive toys. To me, it speaks of the old days when kids (such as my sis and myself) were allowed a creative mind in play. Our beloved Grandma would give us a cardboard box and some crayons and we girls would be busy for hours, maybe even days. The fort would turn in to an operator's switchboard which would turn in to a store front. So much fun and creativity. Now, granted, this boy was just all about the noise and mess. But, it took me back to a simpler time. One without Leap Pads, Gameboy's, and multi-sensory light up pianos. And, for the $1.75, it was well worth it. And, Dj thought so too.

Ever spend $288 on a waterslide?

Well, I have. It is non-stop summer time fun. (Sense sarcasm here.) Too bad it's a little ouch on the pocketbook. But, my other half (who thinks it only cost $200) says it is money well spent and will be fun for many summers to come. We will just have to find an enormous rubbermaid to pack it into and a cozy spot in the garage to store all winter. But, I am assured that next summer when we unpack it, we will be so glad we have it. Mmmmm, I can't wait to be convinced of this. I guess my buyer's remorse will be with me for another summer or two until I decide it was really worth it.
At any rate, my little 5 year old (going on 15) was full of wonder and love today. As we were driving to the gym, she looked out the back of the minivan and exclaimed, "It sure is a beautiful summer day Mommy. The grass is green, the sun is shining, the flowers are smiling...". I took a peek at her thru the rearview mirror and saw the sweetest smile as she gazed out the window. I guess my sister was right, the NW is a beautiful place to live and should be appreciated at all times. Too bad all I have been thinking about lately are the coming cooler months and all the cooking and baking I want to do when it is not so freakin' hot and unreasonable to turn on the oven weather.
Off to take the princess to tae kwon do. Which I think will be good for her today since Deej just smacked her in the head with an Incredible Hulk Hand and she forgot to "high block"...
